Let’s caffeinate the cold away! The fine folks from Ten Drops Coffee are gearing up for the 9th installment of our “Caffeination Collaboration” and know as the “Coffee Lab Collab”. We will have beers infused with unique varieties and roasts of Ten Drops’ Coffee beans. Those same roasts as hot coffee from Ten Drops will also be available to sample and compare with the beers. Coffee infused food items from our neighbors @ Pizza 750 as well as bags of whole beans will also be available for purchase at this event.
Coffee Beers by IOB and Ten Drops:
-Dave’s Coffee Ale- Pale Ale with Ten Drops Ethiopia, Sidamo, Gora Kone Natural (Light Espresso Roast) coffee. -5.5%
**Coffee: This is a fruit-bomb coffee. When you use it to make espresso, you get a blast of ripe blueberries. We don’t usually expect that to express heavily in beer, but it does lend some gentle fermented fruit notes. That’s why Ten Drops and Imperial Oak have liked to pair this coffee process with more aggressively hoppy beers. And this particular beer selection is a favorite of the coffee roaster. 🙂
-Czech Your Beans- Pilsner with Ten Drops Ethiopia, Sidamo, Suke Quto Medium Roast coffee. -5.2%
**Coffee: This is a classic-cup, high density washed coffee. In other words, this is breakfast coffee, thru and thru. This coffee was chosen because of its clean finish and baseline sweetness. The idea is that it should impart “coffee aroma” and some degree of “coffee flavor” to a beer without overwhelming the beer’s malt bill tasting notes. That’s a crucial objective when adding coffee to beer with a delicate flavor profile, like a lager or a light ale.
-Billy’s Coffee- Porter with The Outsiders, Ten Drops House Dark Roast (Vienna Roast) coffee. -5.7%
**Coffee: The goal here is to let the coffee be as pungent as it can be. Darker roasts are more soluble. The coffees in this blend are a Mexico (Bourbon variety) and a Brazil (Yellow Catuai, Mundo Novo, and Acaia varieties) that blend together to do the classic “chocolate and nutty” flavor profile, and the “leather and pipe tobacco” aromatic profile. A Vienna roast is a sort of antiquated term for coffee that is just at the start of dark roast. That means that it’s dark enough for your grandpa, reading the paper at 6 AM, but it’s not an ashtray filled with burning tires. Vienna roasts are a sweet spot for coffee with big body and bracing bitterness, that don’t need cream or sugar.
